The Philippines is under a heightened state of alert as Typhoon Uwan approaches its coast. The country’s weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), reports the storm’s center was recently located just north-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte, moving west-northwestward at around 30 km/h. It has maximum sustained winds of about 185 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 230 km/h.
Authorities have raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal levels across multiple regions, including the top-tier Signal No. 5 in some areas, as Uwan intensifies and threatens landfall.
Pre-emptive evacuations are underway. Over a million people have reportedly been evacuated from high-risk coastal zones, especially those facing storm surge danger exceeding 3 meters
