TV5 Issues Official Statement on Recent Network Developments

TV5 released an official statement on its content agreement with ABS-CBN on Thursday, Dec. 4, hours after the Kapamilya network announced the possibility of ending the partnership.

In the statement, TV5 recalled how it opened its doors to ABS-CBN in 2020 after the franchise loss and later welcomed Eat Bulaga in 2023. The network noted that it values the partnership and understands the financial challenges faced by ABS-CBN. However, TV5 said its repeated appeals for the remittances have not been met, and no assurances have been given that the overdue payments will be settled.

ABS-CBN produced programs have been part of TV5’s lineup through their content partnership, including shows such as “It’s Showtime,” “ASAP Natin’ To,“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano during its simulcast run, and several drama titles that previously aired concurrently on both networks. These programs consistently draw large audiences on TV5, and the shared advertising revenues tied to their broadcasts are part of the financial arrangement that TV5 claims ABS-CBN has not remitted.

TV5 explained that it also faces its own challenges and needs the funds owed to continue operating and serving viewers. The network added that its leniency and forbearance must now give way to the realities of running a business.

Despite the ongoing issue, TV5 assured viewers that it remains committed to providing strong programming and will continue to serve audiences as the situation develops.

ABS-CBN began airing its programs on TV5 in 2020, following the network’s loss of its franchise, which led to a gradual expansion of Kapamilya content on free television through the Kapatid network. In March 2021, ABS-CBN announced that its primetime shows, including “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,“Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin,“Walang Hanggang Paalam, and “Pinoy Big Brother: Connect, would be carried on TV5 as part of a broader programming lineup. The partnership continued to strengthen in the years that followed, and in June 2023, both networks signed a five-year content supply agreement, allowing ABS-CBN to provide more programs for TV5’s primetime and weekend blocks. These arrangements formed the basis for the airing of ABS-CBN-produced content on TV5, supported by shared advertising revenues between the two networks.
