President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Orders 24/7 Emergency Response After Powerful Quake Strikes Off Davao Oriental
Friday, Oct. 10 – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. instructed all government agencies to immediately help in evacuations and relief efforts after a magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit off the coast of Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m.
In a statement, the President said they are “assessing the situation on the ground and ensuring that everyone is safe.” He said he instructed the NDRRMC, Office of Civil Defense, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, and other concerned agencies to evacuate residents in coastal areas, activate emergency communication lines, and coordinate closely with local governments.
Marcos assured the public that search, rescue, and relief operations are already in progress and will continue once conditions are deemed safe. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared and positioned food and other essential supplies, while the Department of Health (DOH) is on standby to deliver medical aid to affected communities.
In an earlier report, PHIVOCS issued a tsunami warning for several coastal provinces in Mindanao and the Visayas, including Davao Oriental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar.
