Pope Leo XIV Urges Hamas to Accept Trump’s Peace Plan, Ending the Violence

Tuesday, Sept. 30 – Pope Leo XIV hopes Hamas will accept former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan for Gaza. Speaking at a press conference in Castel Gandolfo, he noted the plan contained “interesting elements” that could help restore calm and urged all parties to avoid further violence.

The Pope’s remarks came after Trump announced his 20-point plan aimed at halting the fighting and laying the groundwork for renewed dialogue. The proposal sets a deadline for Hamas to respond and includes measures for humanitarian aid, ceasefire monitoring, and regional mediation.

“From all sides, people are saying, ‘Let’s hope that there will not be violence, that people are respected.’ That’s very important,” the pope said.
