US Provides $1M in Emergency Aid to PH Areas Affected by Typhoon Tino and Recent Earthquakes
The United States government has committed $1 million in immediate life-saving assistance to bolster the Philippines’ response to disasters triggered by Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) and a recent series of earthquakes. The US State Department announced on Saturday, Nov. 8
“With another severe storm forecast to impact the Philippines in the coming days, US disaster assistance will remain closely coordinated with the Government of the Philippines and local organizations to ensure timely and effective relief for those most in need,” the US Department of State said.
Typhoon Tino impacted parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions with heavy rainfall and flooding, resulting in significant displacement and damage. Simultaneously, communities still recovering from strong earthquakes in the Southern Philippines faced compounded challenges.
The country is bracing for another storm as Super Typhoon Uwan enters Luzon. On Friday, Nov. 7, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) urged the management of shopping malls across Luzon to provide free overnight parking in areas expected to be affected by Severe Tropical Storm Uwan.
