MMDA Asks PH Shopping Malls to Provide Free Parking as Uwan Passes

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) urges the management of shopping malls across Luzon to provide free overnight parking in areas that will be affected by Severe Tropical Storm Uwan on Friday, Nov. 7.

In a memorandum, MMDA Chair Don Artes directed that the free parking initiative begin Saturday night and continue throughout Uwan’s passage, which is expected to intensify into a super typhoon upon entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“Your cooperation in this joint public service effort will greatly help protect lives and properties amid this severe weather event,” Artes said.

The initiative aims to assist residents in flood-prone and low-lying communities.

This is not the first time shopping malls have offered free parking. In July, some malls offered free parking, access to restrooms, and Wi-Fi when LPA developed into Tropical Depression Dante.

Artes also urged the public to monitor the official social media pages of shopping malls for announcements on the availability of temporary safe parking spaces.

The MMDA Public Information Office will repost official announcements of the shopping malls.
