#WalangPasok: Metro Manila and Other Areas With Class Suspensions

Thursday, Sept. 25 – Due to the approach of Severe Tropical Storm “Opong”, several areas in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the Visayas, and Central Luzon have announced class suspensions. Forecasts from PAGASA warn that Opong is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding, which pose serious risks to safety, commuting, and infrastructure.

Local governments have thus preemptively suspended classes at all levels to protect students, teachers, and staff from hazardous conditions.

According to PAGASA, Severe Tropical Storm Opong has intensified as it moves across the Philippine area of responsibility, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm has prompted tropical cyclone wind signals over parts of Luzon and the Visayas, raising threats of flooding, storm surges, and landslides in vulnerable communities. In response, some local government units have not only suspended face-to-face classes but also directed schools to shift to Alternative Delivery Modes of Learning, such as synchronous and asynchronous sessions, to ensure continuity of learning despite the weather disruptions.
