Lino Cayetano Supports Brother Alan Cayetano’s Proposal: ‘Give Up Power’

Ex-Taguig Mayor and TV director Lino Cayetano supports his brother, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano’s proposal for the country’s top leaders to resign their posts, but there’s a catch. He added that Cayetanos should set an example by resigning from their posts first.

“The Senate will function without the Cayetanos, while Taguig has a very capable Vice Mayor, and the Cayetano political party has had 15 years to run Taguig City and institute reform. Matibay na dapat ito,” Lino wrote on his Facebook.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson announced his resignation as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, reportedly prompted by dissatisfaction among fellow senators over his handling of the alleged flood control scandal.

That same day, Alan took to Facebook to share a lengthy caption.

“So here’s a thought: WHAT IF we all just resign and allow a Snap Election,” Allan wrote.

“No drama, no excuses, no recycling. Just a clean slate for the Filipino people,” another line from Allan that calls the attention of netizens.

While Allan is encouraging higher-ranking public officials to resign and saying they shouldn’t be afraid of stepping down, he excluded governors, mayors, and barangay chairpersons from resigning, as they are generally trusted to stay in place.

Allan’s post prompted Lino to respond, implying that he supports the idea. However, the director wrote, ” I support this proposal. I agree with my brother Alan and ask that we start with ourselves.”

“If you truly believe what you say then trust and have faith that if some of the old guard step down now – it will inspire others to follow,” Lino added.

In the same post, Lino expressed his support for the idea that no Cayetano should run in the 2028 elections.

“Hindi naman siguro ito gimmick konektado sa plano at gulo sa Senado kundi sinserong ideya para masagot and hiling at galit ng tao. Your proposal will show the entire world that THIS GENERATION of Filipino leaders are willing to sacrifice and step aside for the next Generation and we are ready to help them lead  – NOW,” he added.

Allan’s proposal comes amid talk of another brewing Senate coup, with reports claiming the minority leader has secured enough support to challenge for the Senate presidency.
