Puff Daddy Fires Back at 50 Cent Over ‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’
Puff Daddy is firing back after 50 Cent accused him of using alleged stolen footage for Sean Combs: The Reckoning. The issue began when 50 Cent claimed the material was taken without permission, prompting Diddy to respond and refute the accusation. The music mogul labeled the Netflix documentary as a “shameful hit piece” that uses “stolen footage that was never authorized for release.”
Diddy added that the documentary used private recordings that were never cleared for release, including material captured just days before his 2024 arrest. His camp claims the footage was taken without permission and includes conversations and moments that were not meant for public viewing.
According to HipHopDX, Diddy’s spokesperson said, “As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr. Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work.”
Netflix Responds
Netflix denies the allegation and states that the production team obtained all materials legally. The platform says the documentary followed standard clearance procedures and that the disputed footage was part of the content the filmmakers were authorized to use. Netflix stands by the release and maintains “no stolen material was included.”
Tudum, a publication owned by Netflix quoted Sean Combs: The Reckoning director Alexandria Stapleton,
“It came to us, we obtained the footage legally, and have the necessary rights. We moved heaven and earth to keep the filmmaker’s identity confidential.
“One thing about Sean Combs is that he’s always filming himself, and it’s been an obsession throughout the decades. We also reached out to Sean Combs’ legal team for an interview and comment multiple times, but did not hear back.”
Diddy’s Team Slams Netflix for Allowing 50 Cent To Be Involved in the Documentary
Aside from alleging that the footage used was stolen, Diddy’s team also criticized Netflix for featuring 50 Cent in the documentary. It is publicly known that the rapper has a long-standing personal vendetta against Puff Daddy.
“For Netflix to give his life story to someone who has publicly attacked him for decades feels like an unnecessary and deeply personal affront. At minimum, he expected fairness from people he respected,” the statement read.
50 Cent has not given any statement on P. Diddy’s team’s complaint. Previously, he explained the intent behind the documentary he produced, which also appeared on Good Morning America, where Stapleton was a guest.
“That shows you his character … That’s one of the moments where he forgot he was on tape,” the rapper said.
The host asked 50 Cent: Do you think that hip hop culture was on trial as much as Sean Combs was?
Curtis said not all. Then he added that if he did not say anything, “you would interpret it as hip hop is fine with his behaviors.”
Explaining his intent, the rapper said there’s no one else who has been vocal [he’s referring to Diddy’s actions over the years].
50 Cent and P.Diddy Feud
The feud between 50 Cent and P. Diddy began in the mid-2000s when 50 Cent questioned Diddy’s loyalty to The Notorious B.I.G. The tension continued through public jabs, interviews, and social media comments, keeping their rivalry active for years. The conflict resurfaced as Diddy faced new controversies and grew even louder with the release of Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
Sean Combs: The Reckoning brings the long-running tension into a new public spotlight by framing Diddy’s controversies through interviews, archival footage, and the perspectives of people who have crossed paths with him over the years. The documentary’s direction relies heavily on testimony and unresolved questions that continue to shape the narrative surrounding Combs, leaving viewers to confront the broader implications of his legacy and the conversations it has sparked. In the docu, some footage shows what happened before Diddy was arrested and received the verdict.
