On Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 12:20 pm, Charlie Kirk attended the “Prove Me Wrong” table, part of Turning Point USA’s “American Comeback Tour.“ He was taking questions from students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, when a gunshot struck him.
Shortly after the shooting, event attendees ducked for cover as police secured the scene. Two individuals were initially taken into custody in the early hours of the investigation. One was reportedly for obstruction of justice. However, authorities later confirmed that neither person was connected to the shooting and both were released.
Authorities believe the gunfire came from the rooftop of the Losee Center, positioned some distance from the event. Witnesses recalled scenes of chaos as the crowd scrambled for safety, while video from attendees and campus security cameras began circulating online quickly.
