Protesters Target St. Gerrard Construction, While Vico Sotto Urges Calm Amid ‘Magnanakaw’ Gate Incident
Thursday, Sept. 4 – Various groups staged a protest outside St. Gerrard Construction in Pasig City, one of the companies owned by contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, calling out alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
ABS-CBN filmed the protest. In the video, Angry protesters chanting “Magnanakaw, Ikulong.” Some individuals throw mud and spray-paint the words “magnanakaw” (thief), “corrupt,” and “ikulong” (jail them) on the gates of St. Gerrard Construction.
According to the source, the group had no permit to rally when they staged the protest. According to the Pasig authority, the authorities added that the participants may be liable for malicious mischief or willful property damage.
“With or without permit, we always exercise or implement the maximum tolerance policy natin dito. But sa mga ganitong sitwasyon dapat hindi natin payagan na may ganyang mangyari kasi they might be committing the case of malicious mischief,” said PCol. Hendrix Mangaldan, Pasig chief of police.
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto discouraged the public from engaging in acts that could lead to violence through his Facebook page. In the same post, Sotto told the public not to lose hope because the LGU will continue doing its part with investigation, case buildup, and even prosecution.
