PHIVOLCS Officially Lifts Tsunami Advisory for Multiple Coastal Provinces After Russia Megaquake
Wednesday, July 30 – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) officially cancelled its tsunami advisory at 4:40 p.m. PHT today, following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. Authorities confirmed there are no significant sea level disturbances or destructive tsunami waves that were recorded from the quake’s occurrence around 7:25 a.m. up to the cancellation time. Moreover, any effects from minor sea‑level variations have largely passed.
The tsunami advisory initially covered a broad swath of eastern and southern coastal provinces, including:
Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and Davao de Oro. These areas were placed on alert due to the expected sea level change of less than one meter.
