What You Should Know About the Movie
The Boy and the Heron is loosely based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s novel How Do You Live?, according to Empire. The movie is set during World War II.
The story of the film follows a boy named Mahito Maki, who moves to a country house with his father after his mother dies. In the area, he discovers an abandoned tower, which leads him to a fantastical world. And yes, there is a talking grey heron in the story, which explains the title of the movie.
