Honor of Kings McDonald’s Tempest Cup Wins Bronze at 17th Kidlat Awards for Social Activation Excellence
Manila, Philippines – May 19, 2025 – Honor of Kings McDonald’s Tempest Cup, a groundbreaking grassroots esports initiative, has earned a Bronze award in the Creativity in Social: Social Activation category at the 17th Kidlat Awards — one of the Philippines’ most prestigious advertising and creative award shows.
Organized by Level Infinite PH in partnership with its agency partner Minotaur, the Honor of Kings McDonald’s Tempest Cup stood out for its innovative campaign that brought esports directly to players across the country. By transforming McDonald’s branches into esports tournament arenas, the campaign turned everyday venues into high-energy competition hubs — breaking geographical boundaries and connecting communities through the power of gaming and esports. The initiative, held from September to October last year, traveled to multiple provinces and key locations nationwide, delivering an authentic Honor of Kings esports experience closer to grassroots players.
The Kidlat Awards, presented annually by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As), honors the country’s best advertising, marketing, and communications campaigns that exemplify creative brilliance and strategic impact.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the Kidlat Awards,” said Angelica Neri, Esports Manager from Level Infinite PH. “The Tempest Cup brought our community closer than ever to celebrate the grassroots accessibility and passion of Filipino gamers. Together with Minotaur, we created something truly special that resonated with all our beloved Honor of Kings players nationwide — and this award is a testament to that shared vision.”
“Bringing Honor of Kings to life on-ground through the Tempest Cup was more than just a campaign — it was bringing together the community and household brands (HOK and Mc Donald’s) to celebrate the ever evolving esports culture” said Jamie Paraso, CEO and President, from the Minotaur team. “The goal was to blend digital and physical engagement by turning everyday spaces into epic battlegrounds for the greater community. Honored to have this blended initiative be recognized with a Kidlat Award for the strategic creativity, heart and bigger community play behind this effort.”
The Honor of Kings Tempest Cup continues to pave the way for how mobile esports can be celebrated and experienced across the country — not just online, but right in the heart of local communities.
