Taylor Swift’s Death Stare: Pop Star Not Amused With Jo koy’s Joke at Golden Globes

Whether you are swifties or not, you can’t deny the awkwardness of Jo Koy’s introduction at the Golden Globes. Indeed, it is his first time hosting the show; apparently, even if you are watching at home, you can see the awkwardness in the eyes of the attendees. 

He mentioned influential actors like Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, and Meryl Streep. He also mentioned the movies that performed well at the box office in 2023: Oppenheimer and Barbie.

Joking About Barbie

As much as I love Jo Koy, I can’t deny his joke did not go well, especially when he tried to poke fun at Barbie. To be honest, I was waiting for a punchline. But it did not come.

You can see the reaction of Ryan Gosling and Greta Gerwig when Jo Koy described Barbie movie as “about plastic dolls with big boobies.” 

I am not a big fan of Barbie, but I never noticed any scene implying “boobies” or objectifying the female characters. It’s just a pure, fun movie.

Another line from Jo Koy that creeps me out is when he says, “being attracted to plastic dolls.” I rewatched the video just to understand the joke. Then I realized when he said, “There’s something about your eyes, Ryan [Gosling].” Then said, “Margot, it’s not always about you.”

Well, Margot Robbie smiled at this punchline.

Maybe I did not get the joke because of how it was delivered or the timing. 

Taylor Swift’s Death Stare 

Then here we go. Taylor Swift attended the Golden Globes wearing a glittering green sequin gown. Everyone knows that she’s dating the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight-end Travis Kelce.

Swift is not safe in becoming the subject of a joke. She’s been a target of my many comedians and hosts.  If she dislikes the joke, she will give you a death stare. And Jo Koy apparently received one.

But not all jokes about her is funny. Jo Koy’s joke is one of them.

Obviously, Jo Koy appeared nervous during his monologue. He attempted to lighten the mood by referencing Swift’s current beau and highly publicized displays of support for Kelce.

Because she is Taylor Swift, the camera(s) never misses her reaction. Her face tells us she’s not amused. 

There is nothing offensive about Jo Koy’s joke. But for me, it is not just funny. Probably, I am just tired of talking and hearing about Swift’s love life and her personal life in general. The timing and place are other factors that contributed to the joke not going well.
