Pura Luka Arrested; Manila Regional Trial Court Sets Bail at Php 72,000
The controversial Filipino drag queen Pura Luka Vega was arrested at their Sampaloc residence for “immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions, and indecent shows.” This is due to the drag queen’s controversial “Ama Namin” performance. The Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 36 ordered the arrest warrant, and the court set the bail to P72,000.
Vega, or Amadeus Fernando Pagente in real life, is now under the custody of the Manila Police District Station 3 in Quiapo, Manila, according to GMA News. As the arrest was confirmed, #FreePuraLukaVega became trending on X with over 5,000 tweets.
“Drag Den” creator Rod Singh said on X (formerly Twitter) that Vega failed to attend several preliminary investigations of the criminal cases filed against them in Manila. The drag artist also showed support for Vega, tweeting, “DRAG IS ART! DRAG IS NOT A CRIME!” with the hashtag #FreePuraLukaVega.
Singh added that the arrest warrant was issued “despite filing a motion to reopen today.” Singh also claimed Manila issued no subpoena before Vega’s arrest.
Luka and their team will be able to post bail tomorrow. They’ll stay in police custody tonight. For those who are willing to help Luka with their bail amounting to 72 thousand pesos, we will be opening donation channels by tonight.
