Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Facebook Page Allegedly Hacked! DICT Investigating

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office or PCSO Facebook page has been allegedly hacked. Aftermath, PH authorities are now investigating, CNN reported. 

The hacking incident was confirmed by Alexander Ramos, executive director of the Department of Information and Communications Technology – Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (DICT-CICC) on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

What Happened?

PCSO’s Facebook page has been suspected of being hacked because of explicit content posted. 

“Mayroon sa Facebook lumalabas mga nudities, so it’s probably a form of attack na we don’t know if we can address it, but we sent people already to ensure that properly ‘yung investigation and recovery,” Ramos said.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

“There are nudity posts appearing on Facebook. We suspected it is a form of attack that we don’t know if we can address. We’ve already sent people to look into it and ensure that the investigation and recovery are handled properly.”

After a series of NSFW content, PCSO informed the public it has temporarily deactivated its Facebook page as the investigation is ongoing.

“This is to inform the public that the official Facebook page of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has been voluntarily and temporarily deactivated. PCSO has discovered inappropriate activities that require scrutiny and further investigation,” the advisory read.

“The PCSO will continue to provide correct and accurate information about our games and charitable activities in our PCSO Games Online Hub Facebook page,” it added.

Meanwhile, DICT Assistant Secretary Aboy Paraiso said they continuously coordinate with the PCSO.
