Maine Shooting: Gunman Robert Card Still on the Loose
What is now being referred to as the Maine Shooting took place Wednesday evening in the town of Lewiston. Two days later, the death count has reached 18, and the suspect is still on the loose.
The suspect, Robert Card, is considered armed and dangerous. The public has been discouraged by the authorities from approaching Card. Authorities have also asked the citizens of Lewiston and nearby towns to stay in their homes for their safety.
Maine Shooting: What Happened?
The killing spree started in a bowling alley on Wednesday before 7 p.m. local time. According to the report by the BBC, Army reservist Robert Card killed one woman and six men there.
He then moved on to a restaurant called Schemengees Bar & Grille a few minutes later. There, he shot dead eight more men.
The BBC’s report points out that while there were originally 16 people injured, three of them eventually died of their injuries.
Authorities have yet to release an official list of the deceased as of press time. However, a report by Reuters have named Bill Young and his 14-year-old son Aaron as two of those who died at the bowling alley.
Tommy Conrad, the bowling alley’s manager, has also been named as one of the victims by his family. Bryan MacFarlane, who is deaf, has likewise been named as one of the victims who passed away in the restaurant.
Gunman is Still on the Loose
As of writing, the gunman is still on the loose and being hunted down by authorities. An arrest warrant has been issued for eight counts of murder.
As previously mentioned, the suspect is considered armed and heavily dangerous. With residents told to shelter in place, schools, grocery stores, and even doctor’s offices have decided to close for the time being.
Authorities spent Thursday searching a property believed to be owned by one of Card’s relatives. The property, which is located in Bowdoin, was surrounded by armed agents demanding its inhabitants to surrender. However, authorities eventually left the scene.
It is unclear if the suspect was believed to be there in the first place.
