GB News Suspends Laurence Fox Over Comments About Ava Evans

GB News has taken the step of suspending host Laurence Fox following his derogatory remarks about a journalist and his questioning of who would “climb into bed” with her.

Fox’s comments were made during a live discussion in response to PoliticsJOE reporter Ava Evans, who had stated on the BBC that calls for a minister for men were contributing to the culture war.

Evans expressed feeling “physically sick” in response to Fox’s remarks.

GB News has issued a formal apology to Evans and distanced itself from Fox’s comments, describing them as “totally unacceptable.”

In a subsequent statement, GB News announced that Laurence Fox had been suspended with immediate effect while an investigation into his comments is ongoing. Fox has been taken off the air, and an official apology to Ms. Evans will be issued.

Despite his suspension, Fox stood by his comments in a social media post.

The initial exchange took place on Politics Live and involved Evans and comedian Geoff Norcott discussing men’s mental health, highlighting that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50.

On another GB News program, Dan Wootton Tonight, Fox was asked about this exchange. In response, he made derogatory comments about Ava Evans.

Fox’s remarks have sparked widespread condemnation, including from politicians such as Emily Thornberry and Claire Coutinho. Ofcom has received several complaints about Fox’s comments and is assessing them in relation to its broadcast rules.

Laurence Fox, known for his acting career, has transitioned into a right-wing political commentator and activist in recent years. He launched the Reclaim Party in 2020 and ran for London mayor in 2021, receiving 1.9% of the vote.
