FIZE Medical awarded General Urological Products agreement with Premier, Inc. to launch its FIZE kUO® kidney monitoring solution in U.S. hospitals
FIZE Medical, the provider of an advanced fluid-management platform digitizing urine-output monitoring, has been awarded a national group purchasing agreement with Premier, Inc. through its KIINDO pediatric performance group and collaborative. The new agreement allows Premier members, at their discretion, to take advantage of special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier for the patented FIZE kUO® solution in the U.S. The agreement expands FIZE kUO’s availability for adult and pediatric care throughout U.S. hospitals.
About 50 percent of patients hospitalized with normal kidneys in ICUs will be discharged with some kidney damage at the end of their hospitalization. Furthermore, studies have shown that effective monitoring of kidney output helps reduce the mortality rate among patients suffering from acute kidney injury (AKI). In ICU departments, urine output (UO) measurement is one of the most important aspects of critical care because it serves as a key indicator for patients’ fluid balance status, the onset of circulatory shock, and AKI. Early detection of kidney function deterioration can indicate signs of developing AKI or shock, but standard hospital manual urinometers suffer from several vital flaws that inhibit care.
FIZE Medical’s patented FIZE kUO technology tackles this challenge by offering precise minute-by-minute digital UO monitoring down to the microliter resolution accuracy for ICU patients of all ages, including pediatrics and neonates. The device empowers healthcare professionals to detect kidney function deterioration, allowing for timely interventions and treatment adjustments. This is especially critical in pediatric and neonatal units, where attaining accurate results and flagging for deterioration requires supreme precision due to patient age and physical fragility.
The FIZE kUO monitoring platform provides minute-by-minute data that is automatically streamlined into a hospital’s EMR system, measuring every drop of urine entering the bladder in real time. The data is analyzed and key insights are provided for the medical staff, which leads to improved quality of care in ICU departments. FIZE kUO saves an average of 10 hours a day in ICU staff time, freeing up nurses and doctors to carry out other vital tasks and reducing burnout.
The agreement with Premier, via its Kiindo™ Alliance pediatric program, enables children of any weight or age to benefit from FIZE kUO’s advanced capabilities. Through the collaboration, Fize’s solution will also serve adult patients in ICUs. As the sole kidney monitoring solution being used within Premier’s vast network of hospitals, this partnership was established after thorough testing.
While more than half of pediatric ICU patients acquire AKI, monitoring renal function in children comes with significant challenges. Due to significantly lower urine levels, manually monitoring for changes often becomes impossible. The FIZE Smart Sensor™ is designed to identify urine in the bladder, enabling precise measurement of even the tiniest urine volumes that would otherwise go unnoticed and escape measurement within the tubing. Becoming a contracted supplier through the partnership assures children’s hospitals that are part of the alliance have easy access to FIZE kUO.
In addition to its current capabilities, FIZE Medical is in the advanced stages of integrating AI into the FIZE kUO solution. Though still under development, the AI-enhanced platform utilizes machine learning to analyze the data collected through the device to further improve its actionable insights for healthcare teams.
“Our agreement with Premier, a leading U.S. healthcare company, is further validation of our FIZE kUO solution, which has already successfully launched in the U.S. market,” says Dror Zerem, CEO of FIZE Medical. “Our product is groundbreaking because it addresses multiple challenges related to the management and monitoring of ICU patients. We are filling not only a clinical need but an operational need that enables healthcare teams to operate more efficiently. With FIZE kUO’s accurate and timely measurements, ICU departments have a reliable and trusted tool to gain important medical insights, streamline processes, and ultimately save lives and provide enhanced care.”
