Epic Games vs. Google and Samsung: Fortnite Maker Sues Tech Giants
Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, is suing tech companies Google and Samsung, alleging illegal collusion to block competition on Samsung devices. The game publication revealed the news on Monday, Sept. 30.
The latest lawsuit targets Samsung’s Auto Blocker feature. Epic claims that this feature was implemented in collaboration with Google, which is said to be a strategy to counteract a recent US court ruling on its app store practices.
Epic Games Chief Executive Tim Sweeney revealed that the company would submit a lawsuit in a US federal court in California, where they fought legal cases before and won a year-long legal battle with Google back in 2023, according to Strait Times. Sweeney added that he would challenge European and Asian authorities amid his long-running battle to force Apple and Google to open up their smartphones to other app stores.
“This is a major global fight, which is ultimately for the right of consumers to get all the benefits of competition and choose freely who they want to do business with,” Mr. Sweeney said.
