Elon Musk’s X Removes Story Headlines and Links for Some Users
Elon Musk’s platform, X (formerly Twitter), faced reports from users on Wednesday who couldn’t view news links and headlines on certain posts, indicating a change in the presentation of media stories in their feeds.
Several X users observed that posts now only displayed graphics of individual news articles, causing confusion.
Earlier this month, Musk confirmed plans to consider this change, emphasizing it as a way to “greatly improve aesthetics.” An X spokesperson stated that they are investigating whether this alteration in displaying headlines and links is part of a broader rollout.
Linda Yaccarino, appointed as CEO of X by Musk in June, recently emphasized Musk’s role in overseeing product and feature development, while she focuses on business and operational matters during a conversation at the Code Conference with CNBC’s Julia Boorstin.
Yaccarino has been actively working to regain advertisers on the platform, while Musk has ambitious plans to transform the messaging and social media service into an app with expanded capabilities, including payments.
On the same day, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced its decision to resume advertising on X after a temporary pause. In November, the civil rights nonprofit had advised brand advertisers to pause their campaigns due to a surge in hateful posts, which Musk attributed to a significant drop in ad revenue. He even mentioned the possibility of a lawsuit.
The ADL clarified that its decision to pause advertising was not intended as a “boycott of X” or to cause “billions of dollars of losses to the company.” The organization stated its appreciation for X’s recent efforts to address antisemitism and hate on the platform but emphasized that more work remains to be done.
