Pay jeepney fare through online.

DyipPay Allows You To Pay PUV & Book Tricycle!

We lived in Cavite for three years. We stayed at one of Mom’s units. Unlike before, like 10 or 12 years ago, finding a tricycle was so easy. But from 2019 until now, getting a tricycle is not easy.

I asked my husband why there was no app for booking a tricycle service while Angkas, an app for booking a motorcycle, had existed.

I forgot his answer because it was a long discussion. Then, today, I read news about an app that allows commuters to pay fares online.

Every morning, drivers remind us to pay the exact amount of fares. We are all familiar with this phrase, “Barya lang po sa umaga, para di maabala.” Usually, transportation drivers find difficulty in giving changes, especially for bigger bills. It is also challenging for commuters with no coins or smaller bills.

But if drivers consider online payment, there is no need to worry about giving changes.

In a segment of “24 Oras” titled Game Changer aired on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Martin Javier featured DyipPay. This is an app that allows passengers to pay jeepney fares online and even book tricycle rides. This was developed by a former jeepney and taxi driver, Enrique Tan. In the segment, he mentioned he got involved in an accident while reaching out for the passenger’s fare while driving.

Driving while giving the changes to passengers may distract the driver. Coming up with a simple solution, like paying fares online, will benefit both drivers and passengers.

“So itong ating solution, cellphone lang, smartphone lang, hindi mo na kailangan mag-abot-abot ng coins,” said Tan.

“Particular nung nagkaroon ng COVID-19 pandemic, ayaw natin hawakan yung hinawakan ng iba,” he added. Tan studied computer software technology through TESDA.

(This solution only requires a smartphone; No need to hand over coins. Particularly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we were advised not to touch what others have touched)

The COVID-19 pandemic might have inspired Filipinos to solve problems. Probably, in developing this app, there were some restrictions during that time. Health officials have advised social distancing.

Who Can Use DyipPay?

Tan mentioned anyone working for a public utility can use the app.

“Basta public utility vehicle, pasok ‘yan dito sa solution natin,” he added.

How Does DyipPay Work?

Just like the apps for booking taxis and motorcycles (Grab and Angkas), DyipPay has interactive map. But since this is built for PUVs: SUVs, jeepneys, and tricycles, it shows users where the PUV is on its route. Payment is made by scanning a QR code on the PUV. After that, it instructs users to input the departure point and destination, which instantly shows the fare. After getting the total cost, users pay by clicking the button.

What makes DyipPay different from other ride-hailing services is it has a “bonus” feature: booking tricycles. DyipPay will benefit those living in areas where getting tricycles is difficult and provide convenience and safety to both passengers and drivers.

The data gathered by the app could also help LGUs plan PUV routes, according to a report.

According to GMA News, DyipPay underwent the validation testing stage in some Region 3 provinces. Tan acknowledges that DyipPay needs funding to get it off the ground.

“It’s really hard to start up a company in the Philippines, especially on the tech side…we need funds to do it.”
