Who is Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks?
After getting the crown of Miss Iloilo, the 22-year-old Ilongga is expected to appear in Miss Universe Philippines.
Before becoming Miss Iloilo, Brooks, an American-Filipino born in Lebanon — raised in Leon, Iloilo, was a vegetable vendor and athlete. She told ABS-CBN News she dedicated her win to her grandma.
“Kasi everything that I do right now or everything that I have ever done is all for her,” she said.
She added, “My grandma is my life. Without her, I don’t have this dream, or I don’t think that I will even be able to achieve the achievements that I have right now.”
Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks Experienced Bullying
Believe it or not, this beautiful Ilongga, blessed with short curly hair and dark skin, has been bullied. In our culture, people define beauty as having fair skin regardless of whether you look Korean, Chinese, or mestiza; as long as you have white skin, you are pretty in the eyes of most Filipinos.
But after getting the crown, Alexie might change how people define beauty.
She narrated her experience when she got bullied.
“I often get bullied for being black,” she related.
“Going to school, I remember that we don’t have money to buy rice. And the kids would always eat sa table, and I would go to the rest room and eat there. “Because I don’t want them kasi to see what I’m eating kasi they’re gonna bully you for that, e.”
Alexie is not only blessed with an exotic beauty. She is a perfect example of girl power. When she entered college, she became an athlete competing in the high jump, among others. She bagged tons of medals.
She also competed at the Southeast Asian Games.
