Cycling YouTuber, Business Owner Ian How Rushed to Hospital
Cycling YouTuber and SarapMagBike Shop owner Ian How was rushed to hospital over the weekend, revealing that he suffered from pulmonary edema.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov. 26), the content creator, whose real name is Christian Pano, said he was rushed to a hospital in Bocaue, Bulacan, north of Manila, the Sunday prior (Nov. 24) and remains in intensive care in a serious but stable condition.
“Dear masters and kapotpots, I would like to ask for your financial help…” he wrote in Tagalog to his followers. “My lungs were filled with water. I remain in [intensive care] but my condition is improving. I will update you about this soon. So far, my medical bill is increasing and I would need some help. Thank you very much.”
Photos attached to the message showed Ian How in a hospital bed with apparatuses attached to his face to assist him in breathing. Most comments on his post wished him a speedy recovery.
Pulmonary edema is a medical condition where a person’s lungs has been filled with fluids, creating a sensation of drowning to those who suffer it.
To date, Ian How has around 435,000 YouTube subscribers, while SarapMagBike Shop has branches in Quezon City and Pampanga.
Cycling Community Rallies Behind Ian How
In response to Ian’s hospitalization, the cycling community as a whole called on their own followers to help in funding his hospital bills, including Sparkle GMA Artist Center talent Aira Lopez.
Meanwhile, Lane’s Diary Vlog, the social media handle of a cycling vlogger and former SarapMagBike Shop staff, Traqs Philippines CEO Jim Sarmiento, and other cyclists in southern Metro Manila is organizing a charity ride from Muntinlupa to the Philippine Bicycle Demo and Expo at the CCP Open Grounds on Saturday (Nov. 30).
It is understood that Sarmiento pledged to raffle off some items to participants of the ride such as jerseys and other electronics, while a cyclist intends to auction off his helmet that was signed by Ian How and other members of his cycling group Team APOL. All proceeds are expected to contribute to the YouTuber’s hospital bills.
A similar round-trip charity ride is also being organized in Quezon City, starting at SarapMagBike’s main branch in Mindanao Avenue, passing by Trinoma Mall, then back to the shop again.
This was not the first time Ian How had a medical emergency. In late 2022, he was hospitalized in the United Arab Emirates while he was invited there by Filipino expatriates. It was revealed that he has chronic kidney disease (CKD) and had to undergo dialysis while trying to return to both competitive and recreational cycling to keep himself fit.
