Booksale Announces Store Closures, “New Chapter” of Operations

Second-hand and budget bookstore retailer Booksale announced this week it would be closing some of its branches. However, it fell short of confirming whether the move was to downsize the business or to prepare to declare bankruptcy after its 35-year operation.

The company announced on a Facebook post, Tuesday night (Nov. 19), highlighting its commitment to its customers. However, it did not provide any timeline or other details regarding its decision.

“As we enter a new chapter in our bookstore’s story, we want to take a moment to thank you, our loyal readers,” Booksale CEO Josh Sison said. “We have so many exciting plans ahead, and we can’t wait to share them with you.”

Booksale provides affordable alternatives to books and other reading materials, as it is directly competing with Books for Less and Chapters and Pages, as well as an indirect competition with literary retailers like National Bookstore and Fully Booked.

The company currently has multiple branches across the Philippines, including 16 within Metro Manila.
