Asian Games: Nine-Year-Old Prodigy Reaches Skateboarding Final

The 2022 Asian Games, which was rescheduled to this year due to the pandemic, has seen its youngest athlete reach the skateboarding final.

The Philippines’ Mazel Paris made it to the women’s park skateboarding final today, September 24. The young athlete qualified after placing seventh in Heat 1 of skateboarding’s qualification round.

Filipino Nine-Year-Old Makes It to Final

Paris scored 44.86 points on her first run, according to reports. The nine-year-old scored better on her second go, garnering 56.96 points. The points she earned qualified her for the final.

The other skateboarding athletes who are through the final are as follows:

  • Hinano Kusaki (Japan) – 78.06 points
  • Mao Jiasi (China) – 77.06 points
  • Mei Sugawara (Japan) – 75.33 points
  • Cho Hyunju (Korean) – 70.36 points
  • Lin Yi-Fan (Chinese Taipei) – 62.00 points
  • Lin Yujuann (China) – 58.40 points
  • Nyimas Cinta (Indonesia) – 41.30 points

The women’s park skateboarding final is scheduled to take place tomorrow, September 25.

2022 Asian Games

As previously mentioned, the ongoing Asian Games was supposed to take place last year but was rescheduled. The opening for the sporting event took place on September 23. The closing ceremony, on the other hand, will be on October 8.

All the events of the Asian Games are taking place in Hangzhou, China. Additionally, Hangzhou is the third Chinese city to host the multi-sport event. Beijing hosted first in 1990, while Guangzhou hosted the 2010 games.

Athletes from a total of 45 nations are competing this year for medals in their respective sports. A total of 61 sport disciplines will feature in the Asian Games. Particularly, there are four sports that were added in 2019. They are baseball, karate, sport climbing, and softball.
